Jamesy Boy is an emotional and street wise biographical crime film that examines the way a troubled youth finds his way through crime, prison and self discovery. The film was released in 2014 and is based on the life story of the real-life person, James Burns, who was a juvenile offender who later rediscovered himself in poetry and self-reflection. Jamesy Boy is not an exploitation movie filled with violence or criminal cultures like many of the crime movies in which the violence is glorified and the change is a challenging process. Guided by the director, Trevor White, the film tries to demonstrate how the surrounding, bad choices and the young reckless life can ruin a life- and how consciousness and responsibility can gradually restore it.

Plot of Jamsey Boy
The movie revolves around the life of a young man James Burns, who is only eighteen years old and whose life is already characterized by the crime, rebelliousness, and bad decisions taken. Brought up by a single mother who is unable to control his behavior James is more than once turned away by institutions that are supposed to help him such as schools that refuse to re-admit him because of his criminal history. Frustrated and confused, James finds himself drawn to the life on the streets where crime provides him with a sense of identity, belonging, as well as false sense of confidence. James gets engaged to a minor gang band, where he participates in robberies, gun sales and violent activities. He is later arrested and imprisoned as a result of his irresponsible acting.
James is subjected to the harsh environment of prison life gang conflicts, mental intimidation and the ever-present danger of being beaten-up. He strikes uncomfortable bonds with other prisoners including a tough lifer who puts James to test to be able to control his rage and think outside the box. Then comes a breaking point as James is exposed to the horrific effects of violence that is not checked in the prison system. He feels guilty and lost and starts to write poetry as a way to cope with it. Writing also enables him to work through the trauma and reminisce on his actions and live a life outside of crime. When James releases, he has to deal with the new world and shattered relationships. Instead of taking revenge or going back to crime, he opts to take a more silent route and this symbolizes the personal development and redemption potential.
